The SouthCoast Youth Jazz Orchestra prepared for their New Bedford area concert performances with summer rehearsals at The Symphony Music Shop in North Dartmouth, MA.
The SouthCoast Youth "Festival" Jazz Orchestra is sponsored by The Symphony Music Shop and directed by Mr. Stanley Ellis (former director of the award-winning Old Rochester Regional High School Jazz ensembles). The SYJO offers advanced high school aged jazz musicians an opportunity to perform high quality jazz ensemble literature. All students performing with the SYJO are required to be members of their school ensembles.
The SYJO opened for Jazz vocalist Semenya McCord and her group at the New Bedford Whaling Museum (as part of AHA New Bedford) on Aug. 13, 2009. The youth orchestra also opened for the newly formed Southcoast Jazz Orchestra at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett (MA) on Aug. 15, 2009. (View SYJO Concert Photos)
